English literature is not just about resorting to fiction. Rather, fiction reveals the most authentic, the most human. Louis believes the AI era will be the richest time for humanities exploration. If AI takes care of the practical, then our task becomes clear: to build connections, to evoke sympathy, to speak with rhetorical force, and, above all else, to think. These are what make us human; and English literature can furnish us with them. Harold Bloom famously argues that William Shakespeare's works have invented humanity itself. We can still see traces, boiled into daily life, of Shakespeare’s vivid poetics across contemporary articles; AI hasn't yet mastered the humanities.
