When I have Fears That I May Cease to Be

When I have Fears That I May Cease to Be

By John Keats

When I have fears that I may cease to be

Before my pen has gleaned my teeming brain,

Before high-pilèd books, in charactery,

Hold like rich garners the full ripened grain;

When I behold, upon the night’s starred face,

Huge cloudy symbols of a high romance,

And think that I may never live to trace

Their shadows with the magic hand of chance;

And when I feel, fair creature of an hour,

That I shall never look upon thee more,

Never have relish in the faery power

Of unreflecting love—then on the shore

Of the wide world I stand alone, and think

Till love and fame to nothingness do sink.

收割靈感種出的農作物之前,就去世;

用具創造魔力的手追蹤他們的影子;

When I have fears that I may cease to be

Before my pen has gleaned my teeming brain,

Before high-pilèd books, in charactery,

Hold like rich garners the full ripened grain;

注解:

1) I may cease to be:I may die

2) glean:gather information in small amounts with difficulty; gather after harvest

3) teeming:raining heavily

4) Hold v. 跟high-pilèd books n.

Huge cloudy symbols of a high romance,

And think that I may never live to trace

Their shadows with the magic hand of chance;

注解:

1) symbols:

2) a high romance :

3) the magic hand of chance:

And when I feel, fair creature of an hour,

That I shall never look upon thee more,

Never have relish in the faery power

Of unreflecting love—then on the shore

Of the wide world I stand alone, and think

Till love and fame to nothingness do sink.

注解:

1) fair creature of an hour: 1814年,一個漂亮女子Keats在Vauxhall Gardens見到的。 To a Lady Seen for a Few Moments at Vauxhall

2) thee: 1)

3) the faery power of unreflecting love:

4) the shore of the wide world:
